Past cultural awareness Tours Since 1999, El Shaddai International has been sponsoring cultural awareness tours to West Africa, France and England. Below are highlights of some of our recent past tours:
Senegal is known for its dynamic culture, friendly people, beautiful beaches, and warm climate and is one of ESI’s most popular tours! ESI’s Senegal trip includes a tour of Dakar, the nation’s capital, which offers colonial style villas and delicious European and African cuisine. Tour guests get the opportunity to meet the Senegalese women in the shopping market co-ops who have raised themselves out of severe poverty through the Micro-Economic Empowerment Program. The co-op markets sell wonderful items if you are looking for a truly memorable souvenir! In addition, the group visits the Dior Primary/Secondary School and meets the recipients of Martina Matthews Scholarships. ESI tour members can attend cultural and religious workshops conducted by US missionaries residing in Senegal to gain a better understanding of the overall culture of the area. The tour also includes a boat ride to Goree Island, historically known as the center of the West African slave trade, visits the famous Pink Lake and the Fulania Village, and a stay at the renowned Saly Resort offering guests horseback riding, deep sea fishing and miles of white sandy beaches to relax on! The Senegal tour includes a visit to either the Gambia or Paris, France.
ESI has sponsored several tours to the picturesque Republic of Ghana on the west coast of Africa. Each tour offers a new opportunity to discover and embrace the diverse cultures of this small country from the rocky headlands and sandy bays of the capital city, Accra, to the beaches along the coastline to the south, and the grasslands of the north. Highlights include city tours of Kumasi and Accra, Ghana’s capitol, visiting the Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum. US missionaries living in Ghana host workshops so tour members can really understand the diverse cultures that exists in the country. Most tour guests’ favorite stop on the Ghana tour is visiting the children in ESI’s new Greta D. Shepherd Community School in the village of Anyaa and seeing firsthand how your generous support is creating positive futures!
